Wednesday, July 14, 2010: Creating a CFE Team

Courtesy of Nuno Costa and Força Kai Endurance Team (formerly known as San Diego Anaerobic Endurance)

Building a successful CFE TEAM

  • Pick a race to train towards: specific event anywhere from 10-12 weeks out, you can start out with 10k, 1/2 marathon, triathlon – whichever
  • Create program from the get-go for the specific CFE workouts
  • Enroll other coaches that are as excited about your vision as you are
  • Recruit people that you know and have a relationship with already: current CF members that you train with
  • Create a set schedule for training times & meeting places
  • Assign individual coaches to mentor athletes which will help support their training, schedule and overall wellbeing
  • Be available to members that have questions
  • Create general info packet
  • Orientation for training season
  • Be open to new ideas:  don’t be too fixed on a certain way of doing things
  • Track workouts free for first season:  get people engaged and a sip of the Kool-Aid
  • Consistency:  create a team atmosphere where everyone feels supported and everyone is encouraging of one another
  • Be willing to turn away clients that are going to spread negative energy
  • Create a fun & welcoming atmosphere
  • Build a kick ass website
  • Be willing to trade services
  • Seek out people that are smarter than you that will compliment your team
  • Seek out sponsorships within the community
  • Keep it simple
